FRIENDS BELIEFS - OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

  • We believe the Holy Scriptures, inspired of God, are the divinely authorized record of the doctrines that Christians are bound to accept and of the moral principles that are to regulate their lives and actions. Interpreted by the Holy Spirit, they are an unfailing source of spiritual truth.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that man receives salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and that the presence of saving faith is revealed by a life lived in obedience to the will of God.
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost, sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • We believe that the essential baptism is Christ’s baptism with the Holy Spirit, predicted by John the Baptist, promised by the Lord Jesus himself, and first bestowed upon believers on the day of Pentecost. Christ came to fulfill the Law and left no continuing rites as means of grace to be binding upon Christians.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. “Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14 RSV)
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they who are saved unto the resurrection of life and they who are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe the chief end of man to be to glorify God.

OUR SPIRITUAL GOALS

Members of the Friends Church accept the following as goals for spiritual development. It is understood that members of the Friends Church have accepted Christ as their Savior by faith in His death for them on the cross. The ministry and program of the church are dedicated to bringing these goals to full maturity in the life of all who worship with us.

WE SEEK:

  • To live a life in which Christ is preeminent and His will is foremost.
  • To follow the guidance of the Bible in matters of faith and personal conduct.
  • To reserve Sunday as the Lord’s Day for worship, Christian service, and spiritual enrichment.
  • To glorify God in our bodies, which are the temples of the Holy Spirit, by seeking God’s power to overcome those habits and activities that injure health, body, or mind, and our witness for Christ.
  • To maintain regular periods for personal and family Bible study and prayer.
  • To give systematically a definite amount to the church as God has prospered us, believing that love will seek to surpass the tenth demanded by the Law.
  • To demonstrate love, patience, gentleness, graciousness, and understanding toward others.
  • To guard the reputation of other individuals and organizations.
  • To witness to friends and seek their surrender to Christ by definite prayer, loving example, and spoken word.
  • To share in the work of the church.
  • To be regular and punctual in attendance at the services of the church.
  • To strengthen others and avoid those practices and activities that could cause a brother to stumble.
  • To maintain our homes as places of friendliness, peace, and Christian fellowship and to promote the moral and spiritual development of our children through careful supervision of their education, recreation, and friendships.
  • To be truthful and fair in business transactions, punctual in fulfilling promises, and prompt in payment of obligations.
  • To fulfill the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Mathew 28:19-20)
