Rwanda Trip - Hanna M SmithMuraho! That is “hello” in Kinyarwandan, the native Rwandan language.

This church that I love, the Friendswood Friends Church, has been long time supporters of a missionary family in Rwanda. In 2002, I had the exciting opportunity to participate in a mission trip to visit Rwanda and the Thomas’s, who had moved there soon after the genocide to bring the hope and light of Christ to this devastated nation. I experienced this region firsthand, learning of it’s recent and distant history, and heard many Rwandan’s story of tragedy, healing and forgiveness. Through their lives of loss, I gained a deeper love for the living God and the powerful nature of forgiveness through Christ. Christain Rwandans love and praise the Lord wholeheartedly through singing, dancing and worshipping with an energy and enthusiasm that is absolutely inspirational. Oh, how I desire to worship with such abandon.

I fell in love with Rwanda and it’s people in 2002. It was a true blessing to have my oldest daughter, Meghan (who was 16 yrs old at the time) to be a part of that mission trip. I believe that God planted a seed of love and compassion for others in her heart during that summer of 2002.

This summer, we have another exciting opportunity to experience Rwanda and I can’t explain how thrilled I am to be able to return. This time, my youngest daughter, Hanna (it’s a generational name), will be with me sharing in this upcoming journey to serve missionaries who are serving in Rwanda. Her heart is already tender with compassion for others and I have no doubt that God will nurture her kindheartedness as she experiences His presence in Rwanda.

Please consider supporting us as we make this journey to encounter the abundant love of Christ through the lives of Rwandan people and the missionaries who serve and live amongst them. God has some amazing things in store and we can’t wait to share them with you!
